  PATIENT EDUCATION

An important part of any treatment or prevention program is patient education. Here are some articles to help improve your daily function.

Daily Pain versus Chronic Pain

Pain is a very subjective experience that can at times be debilitating and at others, fade to background “noise”. While short-term pain caused by external forces (a broken bone) or systemic sources (an infection) is considered normal, long-term pain is a lot more complex. Research into pain over the past decade has really changed the way we understand persistent pain. Let’s explore!

  HEALTHY HABITS

A healthy habit is any activity or behaviour that can benefit your physical, mental, or emotional well-being. At first, small changes might not seem that effective.  But when you put together dozens of tiny habits you can create a framework for a healthy life.

Eating Healthier

Indulge your taste buds with this aromatic, rich-feeling main course without sacrificing your waistline. Tart cranberries add tons of antioxidants and become mellow and sweet after cooking them with balsamic vinegar. Using bone-in chick thighs makes for the perfect protein to stay moist and tender in this healthy, cozy meal.

Use Stairs as Makeshift Gym Equipment

If you have stairs at your home or office, take them every chance you get. Don’t stop there, though. For a strong cardio workout, walk up and down the stairs repeatedly. Start with a limited number of repetitions and then increase them as you feel stronger. To elevate your workout, try to incorporate these other stair routines; tricep dips, incline planks, incline push-ups and elevated hip lifts.

Why buy expensive equipment when you can utilize your stairs instead?

  INSPIRATION & MOTIVATION

Our thoughts influence not only our mental state, but our physical state as well. A negative mindset can amplify our perception of pain and lead to worse outcomes after an injury. Empower yourself with positive thoughts to help your mind and body become the best they can be.
