Sandra Hanna - Registered Physiotherapist Resident
In 2013, I started my physiotherapy career by attaining an Honors Bachelor of science degree in Kinesiology from McMaster University. This opportunity provided me with an insight on how the body works, the different neuromuscular, physiological and musculoskeletal system interactions and how our life-style and physical activity habits affect their function. Then fours years later, I attended the Master of Physiotherapy Program at McMaster University.
I started my career upon graduation in various setting, private community practice, pediatric clinics and hospital. I was focused on helping my clients overcome their pain or dysfunction with a strong treatment plan, that starts with understanding the underlying cause and then developing a strong active-based treatment plan tailored to each individual client to suit their specific needs.
I am also a believer in further developing my skills with continuing education courses in areas such as Pelvic Floor therapy, Osteoarthritis rehabilitation, concussion management and manual therapy.
My greatest experience was when I worked in rural and underserved far North communities including Kenora, Red Lake and many reserves such as Wunnimum, Kasabonika, Big Trout Lake. This is where I developed my love for Pediatric Physiotherapy and working with kids ages 0-18 year old with different abilities to help them achieve growth milestones and/or functional goals.
One of my other great experiences was when I worked with competitive cheerleaders at Power Cheer Toronto (PCT). This is where my passion for helping athlete achieve their optimal physical condition for a stellar performance came in. I developed methodologies to help athletes not only bounce back after an injury to their best physical function, and achieve a successful reterun to sport, I also worked with them pre-inury to optimize functional preservation and prevent injury ot re-injury. Simply working with athletes is my passion, as it is intriguing, fun and fulfills my competitive spirit.
In my free time, I enjoy the outdoors; hiking, swimming (remembering my synchronized swimming days) and recently I became a big fan of winter activities , including tobogganing, snowshoeing and skiing. I am also a skilled baker and silverwork artist.
